“Aleem Hossain’s unexpectedly madcap The Thin Orange Line flips a familiar cop narrative on its head as a detective grapples with inner conflict while in hot pursuit of a fugitive.” - BeyondFest
The Thin Orange Line (16mm, 7:24) is a genre-bending short film about a detective out for revenge who is interrupted by his childhood imaginary friend.

Never say never!!! 15 years ago I shot a crazy genre-bending short film about a cop out for revenge who is interrupted by his childhood imaginary friend. The film was not well received by festivals, agents, and producers. My film school friends and profs seemed to like it but the verdict in Hollywood was that the film was too weird and didn't fit clearly into any one genre. One agent told me: "You've made a very expensive advertisement for your own indecisiveness and inability to choose a lane."
This spring, after I finished post-production on my feature film, After We Leave, I had a dream about that old short film and realized that tastes have changed since 2004... and I also suddenly saw how I could cut the film nearly in half. I completely re-edited the film and did new sound and it got into the first ever shorts program at Beyond Fest at The Egyptian Theater!
